Bobby Jones Should Be in Hall of Fame
02-25-02
I’m Chuck Wilson with an ESPN Radio Extra Point,
The Basketball Hall-of-Fame has released this year's nominations for the Hall. And this morning, I come to you to make the case for one of the repeat finalists.
Bobby Jones. He averaged 14-ppg his first 8-seasons but only 8-ppg in the last 4. He usually did his damage off the bench too. But look beyond the scoring average and his “6th man”
status and you see the merits of his Hall-of-Fame nomination. Jones shot 55% from the floor and 78% from the line. He could have scored more. But he played on teams with other scoring options.
So he did everything else. Game after game, he displayed some of the best defense in NBA history. 8-straight years, he was named All-Defensive First Team. He was a clutch performer who came up with key steals,
big rebounds, blocked shots, assists....whatever it took to help his team win.
Here’s hoping the Honors Committee will not pass him over this year. Bobby Jones deserves to be in the Hall-of-Fame.
