Bucs Beat Raiders in Super Bowl
01-27-03
I’m Chuck Wilson with an ESPN Radio Extra Point,
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have their first Super Bowl Trophy and plenty to cheer about this morning after outplaying the favored Oakland Raiders. The offense did its part and again showed poise under
early adversity. Remember, this was the third straight playoff game in which Tampa Bay suffered a turnover on its first or second possession. In each game, the Bucs offense scored points on its next
possession, a big change from the past. But for the number one ranked defense, this was especially sweet. The defense knew it had to win a Super Bowl to validate its claim for historical greatness. And the Bucs did
it against an MVP quarterback and the number one-ranked offense. Tampa Bay led 34-3 with a 20-3 advantage in First Downs late in the 3rd quarter. Rich Gannon didn't have time to pass and never got into a rhythm.
The final stats listed 5-sacks and 5-interceptions. That's dominance.
The top 3-ranked offenses and defenses have now met 10-times for the Title with the defensive team winning 9-of-10. The Defense...rests...
